Topic: Upload / Formats for Upload?

Hi Pete,
I always upload RAW files with the file size in the filename:
example_34567x16789.raw

Try exporting your gigapans as RAW files; GigaPan Stitcher appends the size to the filename automatically. I have a 100% success rate.

You must use GigaPan Uploader for RAW files.

best regards,
Tom

Topic: Low-light Gigapanning / Using in low light

Hi Edward,
These forums are defunct after the 2014 bankruptcy of GigaPan and sale of its hardware business to OmegaBrandess. OmageBrandess continues to sell GigaPan robots; I don’t know if they will upgrade the stitching software. Customer support is nonexistent. The site seems to still operate: you can still upload and view ’pans.

Here’s a background for what happened:

Best of luck,
Tom Nelson

Topic: Upload / Formats for Upload?

We tend to upload .PSB files with a 90% success rate. The images will fail unless you flatten the layers and save, which is a good thing to do anyways. As for the 10% of the time .PSB fails, the only solution I know of is to render the Gigapan again and start over.

What formats have worked successfully, recently, using the uploader?

I loaded a number of images long ago… but not sure it works anymore?

This is strange. Does this forum work? I see the title of the post but no content. Will this reply show up?

Thank’s Michele. You saved my day. I lost my upload program a couple a years ago, and thought I’d never was able to upload any more to this site. The copy you provided worked perfectly in win 10 – so now I’m back in business :)

Topic: Web Site and Forum / Gigapan in my website

I doubt anyone at OmegaBrandess really pays much attention. I’m not sure who really runs the site now that the original Gigapan people are gone. It was much better when the school or whomever was running the forums. So many people contributed. I think it just needs another overhaul and someone that pays attention to the site.

You can still upload, but I think you need to use the Gigapan uploader program.

Is the upload module still working? Nothing seems to happen when you click on it…

2017: Admin. What’s happening to the site?
No forum and again this year the View-counter has not been working from March 10th. Bring back subscriptions & lets have the site running properly please. I’ll willingly pay 10$ a month. Furthermore will you please clean up the front page and remove the broken links. Thanks

It feels like it. I think those stupid spam ads ruined the forum site. Before they moved to this format it was the greatest site for learning and innovating the Gigapan. Then they moved to this format and it wasn’t the same, but people still contributed. Since the spam started, though, it dropped off dramatically. It just doesn’t seem the Gigapan is as popular as it was years ago.

Just seeing if anyone is still around or if anyone knows if this site will stick around or for how long… seems to be in its death throes.

For those who need the uploader, I have a copy of the Windows version to share.

gigapan-1.1.1552-upload-only.msi, download link:

http://tiny.cc/gigapan-upload-only

You can verify it’s safe scanning it with www.virustotal.com

Topic: Upload / Tiled images for large uploads

I don’t think you are going to have any joy there.

When you use Stitch to “stitch plus upload” it generates multiple views of the image (you’ve probably seen that GigaPan refers to a “tree structure”).

Maybe someone else can confirm or reject, but it seems logical that the Uploader on it’s own also creates the same multiple tiles and the multi-level tree images. This would be consistent in that this process remains on your PC and the server is only hosting the image. If that’s the case then you wouldn’t be able to load as separate sections of your image as the multiple images in the tree structure would need all your image available at the same time and Uploader could only be used in a single pass for one panorama.

The reason I have some doubt though is while Stitch definitely creates all the tree structure as it leaves it all behind on your PC, I’ve never seen anything left behind from Uploader. I’ve always assumed though that it just tidied up afterwards.

I think you’re really just best to stitch your tiles together first and then just allow Uploader to run with the single file.

If you’re asking as your favourite software doesn’t do this, I have used the freely available ImageMagick to stick uniform sized tiles together (and it can be done by a simple batch file). I think my biggest file so far would be about 1.6 gigapixel this way. Down side is I’ve found that you will be larger than a standard TIF file for the images you are talking about, and ImageMagick kept creating PSB and PSD files that the current version of Photoshop wouldn’t read. Saving as a PNG file worked though (and then you could run that through Photoshop or something else if needed to save in whatever format). Then just allow Uploader to do the job it was designed to do. Just be careful with PNG though as Windows enjoys reading the whole file just to create a thumbnail – and that is very, very slow indeed with gigapixel images!

Has anyone figured out a way to upload really large images (5+ gigapixels) that are sliced into tiles?

If the release is the same as used on the NX20, and based on the first schematic here, you may need a 68K resistor between pins 4 and 5 of the micro USB.

Id like to use my NX1 on the epic, but no cabeling, ive tried with a converter plug to get the two right usb plugs, but no go. THe trigger is just a short on a usb plug, so should be simple to make one i guess, would be nice to know what pins do what on the epic though. Nayone got any ideas?
